Today’s smartphones are more powerful than ever and thousands of new apps are released every day to fill seemingly every need imaginable. All of this can be rendered useless if you don’t have cell coverage. Your personal network signal strength can vary drastically based on your location, carrier network, and even time.
In today’s post, we examine historical signal performance data from the AppQuest.io community for the top carriers (AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon) in the heart of Los Angeles. Below are two charts showing the times that users from each carrier network experience the most and least powerful network LTE signal strength. The top chart depicts the performance during the average weekday (Monday through Friday) and the second chart shows the signal performance during the average weekend day (Saturday through Sunday).

Luckily for working commuters, AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon have their best period of network signal strength from peak rush hour times at roughly 4PM-8PM, which might be the only good news for those forced to tolerate the LA rush hour traffic. Both AT&T’s network signal strength and Sprint’s signal strength is at a low point in the late morning, while both T-Mobile and Verizon networks see the weakest network signal strength in the late evening.
AT&T Best Weekend Network Signal Strength: 7AM-10AM
AT&T Worst Weekend Network Signal Strength: 5PM-8PM
Sprint Best Weekend Network Signal Strength: 1PM-4PM
Sprint Worst Weekend Network Signal Strength: 9PM-12AM
T-Mobile Best Weekend Network Signal Strength: 6PM-9PM
T-Mobile Worst Weekend Network Signal Strength: 9PM-12AM
Verizon Best Weekend Network Signal Strength: 12PM-3PM
Verizon Worst Weekend Network Signal Strength: 8PM-11PM
When it comes to the weekends, Los Angeles residents and visitors that enjoy being out late on the weekends might favor AT&T, as it is the only mobile cellular network that doesn’t have the worst cell signal during the late night. Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon all see their poorest stretch of signal strength after dinner time on the weekends.
There’s some significant differences when comparing each carrier’s weekend vs. weekday performance. For example, when on the weekday, AT&T users experienced the best signal strength between 5pm and 8pm and worst signal strength in the morning; users experienced the opposite during the weekend.
